Ansoo Lake “Tear Lake”

Ansoo Lake, located in the Kaghan Valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in Pakistan, is considered to be one of the highest lakes of the Himalayan Mountain ranges. Situated at an altitude of 13,927 feet (4245 meters) above sea level, the lake is just opposite Malika Parbat, the highest mountain in the Kaghan Valley.

According to local residents of the Naran Valley, Ansoo Lake (Tear Lake) was discovered by Mr. Muhammad Tahir, who named it “Ansoo Jheel,” which means “Tear Lake” in English, due to its shape resembling a tear. Despite only recently becoming a popular attraction for adventure lovers, the lake has unique features that make it a must-see destination for any nature enthusiast.

The best time to trek to Ansoo Lake is between July 10 and August 15, as the lake’s waters are said to be particularly mirror-like during this period. Additionally, the lake is covered in snow for most of the year, except for a brief period in the summer, making this a unique opportunity for visitors to witness the natural beauty of the area in its full glory.

One of the most notable events in the history of Ansoo Lake is the achievement of Dr. Mariya Sadiq, who in July 2003, at the age of 17, became the first female to set foot on the Ansoo Lake. Accompanied by her younger sister Sonia Sadiq, who was just 13 at the time, the sisters made history and set a world record that remains unbroken to this day.

On July 13, 2019, Dr. Maren Von Fritschen, a 53-year-old from Berlin, West Germany, also made history by becoming the first German female to explore the beautiful and remote Ansoo Lake (Tear Lake) in the upper Naran valley beyond Saiful Maluk Lake.
